Aventuras de los tímidos en un mundo malo

Ortiz, Lourdes. 1995. La fuente de la vida. Barcelona: Planeta. Finalista Premio Planeta 1995 (otra selección del Club de Lectura de la Biblioteca de Carboneras)

Dos madrileños, inquisitivos pero pusilánimes, viajan a ciudades distantes -- Cusco, el recién casado Ramiro, y Bucarest el periodista cuarentón y regordete Esteban -- donde cada uno se liga con una mujer fuerte (Nelly la gringa en Cusco, Ródika la enfermera en Bucarest) que está en líos por su participación en el tráfico de niños, y después de un débil y totalmente ineficaz intento de rescatarlas, cada uno regresa a casa y a su rutina y mujer aburridas. O sea, a diferencia del típico héroe de aventuras, son burgueses normales que en el fondo no quieren cambiar sus vidas. En cuánto al tráfico de niños, nunca averiguamos que era lo que realmente pasaba en ninguno de los dos países, pero se intima que eran cosas bien feas. Las descripciones de las dos ciudades, Cusco y Bucarest, son las partes más interesantes.
